The Service Line Manager is responsible for the development and initiatives of the Environmental & Water Consulting Service Line. Foster and maintain key relationships with existing and potential clients to improve the company's market position. Bridge the Environmental & Water Consulting Services with the other Service Lines and activities. Tendering for Environmental & Water Consulting Services, project manage Environmental and Water Consulting projects.

Develop business opportunities into winning projects and meeting sales targets in a given territory or service line including involvement in lead generating and proposal development activities.

Key Responsibilities



  • Work closely with relevant Regional Business Development Manager and Regional Service Line Managers to developing new business and clients for Water and Environmental Consultancy in existing and potential new markets in the region. in line with the strategic objectives while championing "One Fugro" structure to the clients. This includes improving client relations while becoming more aggressive in winning key large projects in the regions through:
    • Identifying such projects at an early stage and agree "strategy to win".
    • Positioning Fugro as a preferred contractor / supplier including a strong understanding of the competition.
    • Providing a strong supporting and coordination role in the tender process.
    • Providing a leadership role in winning and organizing selected key projects.
    • Coordinate and champion the regional integration with global CRM system "Avalon" and ensure regular and pro-active input from all team members.
      • Collaborate with GeoConsuting and experts in the various geographic areas to deliver comprehensive solutions to client problems and maximise opportunities for Fugro.
      • Evaluate market trends in the industry, including process, new technology and intelligence on the competition and advise on industry best practise.
      • Develop and maintain rapport with new and existing clients for future business potential.
      • Negotiate and execute contracts with clients
      • Develop agile robust commercial strategies to ensure market growth.
      • Provide and allocate technical expertise and professional advice to external clients or prospective clients if and when required.



  • Prepare relevant Tender Documents in a timely manner focus on:
    • Risk Assessment
    • Cost Preparation
    • Time Management
    • Collating input on technical solutions and deliverables.
    • Submission
    • Planning
    • Quality
  • Review scope and specifications and identify necessary technical leads.
  • Provide provisional recommendations for achieving client objectives.
  • Provide support on resolution of contractual and commercial issues.
  • Interpret financial, operational and commercial insights.
  • Ensure Safety issues and required parameters are included in contracts to ensure compliance at the time of project execution.
  • Participate in contract required, technical or project related meetings, internally and externally.
  • Conduct site visits in a pre-tender or post award stage.


  • Manage technical aspects of field and / or office based projects for all technological disciplines.
  • Manage technical and procedural activities necessary for the efficient operation of the AIT department.
  • Develop and implement project required procedures in order to professionally and efficiently conduct a survey project aligned with client focus, delivery excellence and innovation.
  • Develop, implement, maintain and apply a quality control system that guarantees the highest achievable standard of products and services.
  • Manage the production of final deliverables as per Fugro Standard and Client's specification.
  • Ensure project execution adheres to contract clauses accordingly, particularly those that may have commercial impact.
  • Manage process of complex project plan preparation of detailed project plans.


  • Submit reports to the Country Manager and Service Line Managers per agreed guidelines.
  • Maintain an organised archive of project and relevant project data.



  • Ensure that Fugro policies and procedures are understood, implemented and adhered to by all employees.

Qualifications / Skills / Experience

  • Master degree or higher Education from accredited college or university in Hydrology, Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10+ years of practical experience in similar role.
  • Self-motivated, pro-active, committed and flexible with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Commercial and Business acumen
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-national and multi-cultural work environment.
  • Must be able to travel in the region and attend site when necessary.

Role Specific Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge of Project Management Areas project scope management, project time management, project cost management.
  • Industry specific management knowledge lifecycle management, product development methodologies.
  • Responsible for an important segment of the engineering program of the company with extensive and diversified engineering requirements.
  • Use extensive industry contacts to build and cultivate Water Services team.
  • Able to solve critical problems that require major technological advances and extensive development.
  • Consult extensively with a high degree of reliance placed on scientific interpretations and advice.
  • Direct team members or individuals assisting on projects. Mentor performance excellence and adherence to quality standards.
  • Develop the water services strategy in adherence with consulting business line objectives and Fugro corporate strategy (Client focus, Delivery Excellence and Innovation)
  • Strong understanding of water sector areas and environmental issues:
    • water supply, recycling and sewage disposal, hydrology and water course mapping
    • environmental requirement and regional country regulation
  • Knowledge of geology and geotechnical engineering
  • Stay abreast of current professional practices, periodicals, and technological advancements. Maintain meaningful involvement in professional organizations.
