JOB SUMMARY

Our office in Wallingford delivers a number of key services supporting projects in both the marine and land environment.

 

The Weather Forecasting Department provides services and support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to their clients for near shore, onshore and offshore operations across the world, and are currently looking for a suitable candidate to join the team as an Assistant Marine Forecaster. This will be on a Fixed Term basis, with the potential to become permanent.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities associated with this position include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Preparation of land based forecasts (Weather Consultancy Services) primarily in the UK and in North West Europe.
  • Preparation of marine weather forecasts for offshore operations after suitable in-house training under close supervision.
  • Maintain meteorological watch over all locations/areas for which forecasts are being produced.
  • Check all forecasts and initiate contact with Clients as necessary in case of severe weather threat.
  • Assisting the Manager Metocean Forecasting to undertake climatological and hindcast studies.
  • Managing data, development of scripting and undertaking data extraction tasks.
  • Innovation services are constantly being developed and these require input from the Assistant Forecaster when not on formal watch keeping duties.

 

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications required:

  • First or second degree in Meteorology.

 

Skills required:

  • Good problem solving abilities, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to manage information.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and prioritise.
  • Able to work accurately under time pressure.
  • Ability to work well within a team.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products is desirable.
  • Basic Matlab/scripting skills are desirable.

 

Experience required:

  • Experience in working to schedules and understanding a variety of weather situations around the world is essential.;
  • Prior forecasting experience in a science based environment, client facing, is desirable.
