We are currently seeking a Principal Geophysicist to join our established Australian Marine Survey operations.

Based in Fugro's Balcatta (Perth) office you will report to the Geophysics Manager.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Technical oversight of data acquisition, QC, processing and interpretation of marine engineering Geophysics data to highest industry standards;
  • Mentoring of geophysics field and office teams to ensure practices and procedures are adhered to and the professional development of the teams;
  • Provide advice on the geology, geophysics and tectonics of Australia and regional offshore areas.
  • Advise management team and others on geophysical acquisition practices, data interpretation and reporting guidelines and standards, in pre-project and post project meetings and other discussions or meetings as required.
  • Review and comment on Geophysics procedures and reports prior to issue.
  • Be the primary focal point for client technical queries.
  • Undertake geophysical/geotechnical integration studies.
  • Undertake desktop studies and associated site visits
  • Involvement in shaping tender strategies, coordinating with tendering team and involved with tender review processes
  • Responsible for reviewing geological, geophysical, oceanographic and other relevant scientific and technical publications and disseminating relevant articles to Fugro staff.
  • Compliance with QHSSE policies, standards and procedures;
  • Available for occasional offshore project duties in a senior capacity as requested.
  • Actively promote Geophysics marketing initiatives, promotion of services and business development.
  • Provide service line management support in the absence of the Geophysics Manager.

 

To be considered for the role you will require the following:

  • Higher Degree level qualification in Geophysics, Geology or relevant Geoscience discipline;
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in Geophysics/Geology, in particular offshore marine engineering geophysical/geotechnical investigations.
  • Excellent knowledge of marine engineering geophysics techniques including marine acoustics (MBES, SSS, SBP seismic reflection single and multi channel systems and seismic refraction), marine magnetics, electrical resistivity and ground truthing techniques.
  • Sound understanding of Australian marine sedimentology/geology
  • Good understanding of shallow marine and deep water geohazards and their impact on subsea engineering
  • Hold (or able to complete) an OGUK offshore medical certificate
  • Hold (or able to complete) Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training course;
  • Willingness to work offshore for periods of time;
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision;
  • Able to present data interpretations and reports to a wider audience;
  • Have an excellent command of written English
